Fish physiology is the scientific study of how the component parts of fish function together in the living fish. It can be contrasted with fish anatomy, which is the study of the form or morphology of fishes.

Importance of studying fish physiology
  1.  To know the all theoretical knowledge.

  3.  To make the skilled person who have overall conception about these course.
  4. To know the anatomical as well as histological knowledgeho

classification of fish based on thermal regulation 

Animals divided into two main categories:
  • poikilotherms: cold blooded; change their body temp. according to environment such as fish, amphibians & reptiles
  •  Homeotherms:  warm blooded; maintain their body temp. e.g. birds, mammals
Modern classification of animals
  •  Ectotherms: take heat from outside e.g. fish amphibian & reptiles  intervertebrates.
  • Endotherms: take heat from inside e.g. mammals, birds etc.
  • Heterotherms: take heat from inside but body temp. change e.g. bat
