Their are 5 types of fish mouth according to The position and size of the mouth show a close relation to the location & size of food items.
Terminal mouth: situated at the tip of the snout and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fish species that are primarily adapted to seizing food, located infont of them. example: sharputti, Titputi, etc.
Superior mouth: The mouth is superior and located on the upperside of the snout. when the fish generally feeds upwards in the water column as with plankton filter feeder. example: catla,silver carp, bighead carp etc.
Inferior mouth: The mouth is often located inferiorly on the lower side of the snout. e.g. mrigal, bata etc.
Sucking mouth: in this type, mouth can protude forward, e.g. pipe fish, sea horse, short head redhorse etc.
